Root Canal Therapy from Norwood Dental

Our Team in McKinney, TX Works Hard to Help Patients Stay Comfortable and Content

When the nerve of a tooth becomes infected, root canal therapy is necessary to save the tooth. Teeth become infected because of a deep cavity, gum disease, or trauma. The infection can result in an abscess at the base of the root. This leads to deterioration of the bone and swelling of the gums surrounding the tooth. An infected or abscessed tooth may or may not be painful.

Root canal therapy is designed to replace the diseased soft tissue inside the tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. In order to save the tooth, the infected tissue and any decay are removed and the resulting space is filled with specialized materials. A filling is then placed to help seal the area from reinfection.

After the filling, a crown is fabricated to complete the rescue and restoration of the natural tooth. The procedure is generally spread over several visits to assure the infected area has healed properly.
